New IMA Publications
1 July 2016
Two new IMA publications will be released this month, Gordon Bennett: Be Polite, and Nicholas Mangan: Limits to Growth. Both are published by Sternberg Press.
Gordon Bennett: Be Polite follows the IMA’s exhibition of largely unseen works on paper by one of Australia’s most visionary and critical artists, Gordon Bennett (1955–2014). The exhibition and publication are the first to present the work of Bennett since his untimely death. This publication is edited by Aileen Burns and Johan Lundh, and brings together three newly commissioned essays by art historian Ian McLean and curators and arts writers Helen Hughes and Julie Nagam alongside the artist’s drawings, acrylic/gouache and watercolour paintings, poetry, and essays from the early 1990s through to the early 2000s; a period that produced work of remarkable force.
Nicholas Mangan: Limits to Growth accompanies the exhibition of the same name which opens at the IMA in October 2016. Initiated by Monash University Museum of Art (Melbourne), the Institute of Modern Art (Brisbane), and Kunst-Werke (Berlin), the exhibition and book bring together four of Nicholas Mangan’s most significant works of the past seven years and a new commission: Nauru – Notes From a Cretaceous World (2009-10), A World Undone (2012), Progress in Action (2013), Ancient Lights (2015), and Limits to Growth (2016). The publication is edited by Aileen Burns, Charlotte Day, Krist Gruijthuijsen, and Johan Lundh.
Both publications are available for purchase online through the IMA bookshop: Gordon Bennett: Be Polite; Nicholas Mangan: Limits to Growth. Or visit us at the gallery to purchase in person.
