Please join us for a screening of Michael Candy’s work ‘Ether Antenna’ (2017) 4pm Saturday, 14 October. The film inspired by Buddhist tales, follows the story of ten robot characters on a journey through the urban landscapes of Nepal. The mechanical adventure is scored by the tune of Pauline Anna Strom’s electronic soundscapes, exploring our relationship with ecology and technology.
Candy has been involved in many international and local projects, notably: First Draft (Sydney), Next Wave (Melbourne), The Instrument Builders Project, Hackteria Lab (Yogyakarta), and Hawapi (Peru).
See the work in the screening room 10–14 October, with a closing event Saturday, 14 October, 4pm.
Since 2009, the IMA has had the honour of presenting the Jeremy Hynes Award to an experimental Queensland artist in the earlier stages of their career, made possible by a bequest made by the family of Jeremy Hynes in his name. The 2017 shortlist artists Lucy Forsberg, Michael Candy, Elizabeth Willing, and Naomi Blacklock are presenting projects and events throughout October. The recipient of this year’s award is to be announced at IMA’s Annual Party on Saturday 28 October, 6pm. Read more about the Jeremy Hynes Award here.
