The Form That...

Feminist film screenings

30 October 2014
6pm–8pm

  • Event Cost:
This is a public event, which is free for IMA members. Admission is $5 for non-members.

The IMA and OtherFilm presents an evening of feminist film screenings to coincide with the exhibition of Sarah Browne, Hand to Mouth, and Mierle Laderman Ukeles, Maintenance Art Works 1969–1980.

Shorts screened will include the influential ‘women’s work’ parody Semiotics of the Kitchen (1975) by Martha Rosler, the appropriated television imagery of Dara Birnbaum’s Wonder Woman (1978-79), and pioneering Australian film feminists Robin Laurie and Margot Nash’s We Aim to Please (1976). Our featurette for the evening comes from Duncan Campbell, current nominee for the 2014 Turner Prize, with Bernadette (2008), a tense, open-ended story of Irish dissident and political activist, Bernadette Devlin.

Filmmaker Robin Laurie will join us to introduce the film and the historical context of We Aim To Please, commenting on what has changed in the current context.
