IMA Belltower at Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts
After an open call for applications across Queensland, Daniel McKewen has been selected to exhibit as part of the IMA Belltower program. He will present a temporary public artwork, to be projected on the façade of the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts.
Daniel McKewen’s practice investigates the intersections of contemporary art, popular culture, economics, politics, and screen-based mass media. Working across a range of media including video installation, McKewen examines the formal and symbolic conventions of these institutionalised structures, exploring our individual and shared interactions with them.
IMA Belltower at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and this exhibition and artwork projection opportunity is generously supported by The Cove, Newstead.
In 2013 McKewen was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy from QUT, where is he currently a lecturer in Media Arts. His artwork is held in private collections and has been exhibited nationally and internationally since 2006, including in NEW14 at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, and the 19th Biennale of Sydney. McKewen is represented by Milani Gallery, Brisbane.
