Brisbane-based ceramicist Chloe Gard returns to the IMA with the launch of a new collection of colourful handmade vessels, titled hide and seek.

After a recent turn to drawing, Gard has produced a new collection that translates her repeated abstract motifs into clay. Using a fauvist palette, Gard’s hand-built and thrown pieces are all painted with coloured porcelain. These playfully textural pieces will be available for the first time at the Gallery Shop after hours.

Join Chloe Gard for an intimate launch event at the Gallery, wind down while DJs Kurt Wildermuth and Nathan Sellin spin records, and find your own one-off ceramic treasure.

  • Chloe Gard

Chloe Gard is a Swiss-born Australian artist living and working in Brisbane. Gard originally studied photography and printmaking at Queensland College of Art, Brisbane. She thrives on creating with her hands, which lead her to investigate her fascination with the craft revival movement.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
