Join the inaugural iteration of the IMA Reading Group on Saturday, 14 March, at 3pm, in the Motto IMA bookshop. The reading group is a monthly assembly designed to further activate local discussion surrounding contemporary art, led by our Public Programs and Publications Officer, Tess Maunder. The initiative is aimed at university students and recent graduates, and desires to provoke conversation in an open, participatory environment.

The first reading will be Nick Aikens’ “Bullets from the Black Box: Hito Steyerl’s Is the Museum a Battlefield and Guards” from Hito Steyerl: Too Much World (Sternberg Press, Van Abbemuseum, the IMA, 2014), please click here to access a free copy of this reading and Ahmet Ögüt’s “CCC: Currency of Collective Consciousness”, e-flux journal #62 (2015) which is also available to read for free online.

Please read the texts prior to the day.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
