3pm–4pm

    Free

Join the fifth iteration of the IMA Reading Group on Saturday, 14 November, at 3pm. The reading group is a monthly assembly in the Motto IMA bookstore designed to further activate local discussion surrounding contemporary art. The initiative is aimed at university students and recent graduates, and desires to provoke conversation in an open, participatory environment.

This session will focus on Mirrors for Princes, a new publication departing from the project of the same name, by artist collective Slavs and Tatars. The text will open discussion on today’s dilemma: there’s no shortage of political commentary but a notable lack of intelligent, eloquent discourse on the role of faith and the immaterial as a valuable agent in society or public life. Public Programs and Publications Officer, Tess Maunder, will lead this session. Please contact Tess Maunder to obtain a copy.

Please read the texts prior to the day, copies will be made available on our front counter leading up to the week of the reading group. The event is free, and all are welcome.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
