American Norman Westberg’s guitar playing with SWANS has influenced a generation of musicians across genres. Creating tightly bound slabs of sound with the legendary ensemble, he has become recognised as one of the most provocative and focused guitarists emanating from New York today. Similarly, Westberg’s solo work charts an uncompromising path, albeit one aesthetically remote from the rigid structure of SWANS. Across a number of recently re-issued editions, including the lauded 13 and the soon to be issued MRI, Westberg’s compositions come to dwell in echoing universes of deep texture and harmonic intensity. His solo works generate an affecting quality that drives the listener towards reductive transcendence.
He presents his very first solo concert outside North America as part of the MONO series. Joining Norman Westberg is An Infinity Room, the spatial drone project of Australian artist Julian Day.
