Event Boxcopy Record Launch

Boxcopy Record Launch

15 September 2024
12–1pm

Boxcopy was one of Meanjin/Brisbane’s longest-running ARIs. Between 2007 and 2020, it was dedicated to presenting experimental and emerging art, supporting the development of Queensland artists, including Sam CranstounArchie Moore, and Elizabeth Willing.

In 2019, Boxcopy held Sound Offering, a series of experimental-music eventsArtists in their exhibition program were invited to create a sound performance. These were recorded and produced as six lathe-cut records, in limited editions of twenty-five. The records were never released, but, five years on, they’ve been rediscovered. To celebrate, we’re holding a belated launch, with a panel discussion from past Boxcopy directors and the artists involved.

Sound Offering features contributions from: Rachael Archibald and friends, James Barth and Spencer Harvie, Leif Gifford, Libby Harward and Joseph Burgess, Michael Loutitt, Callum McGrath, Amelia McLeish, Orthotyp-A, Phantom Chips, Isha Ram Das, and Alexandra Spence.

Join us to get your hands on these unique records, and to hear about the vibrant ARI scene Boxcopy was part of. Special discounts apply on the day.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
