Institute of Modern Art hits the high street for its annual Gala and Benefit Auction

Announcement

10 July 2024

The Institute of Modern Art returns to The Calile Hotel for its annual Gala and Benefit Auction on Tuesday 13 August 2024. Established in 1975, the IMA is the oldest independent contemporary art gallery in Australia, and has supported new art, artists, and ideas in Queensland for nearly fifty years.

The IMA Gala and Benefit Auction is the only fundraising event in Australia of its kind, where art lovers and collectors can enjoy an evening of curated experiences while bidding on exclusive works. This year’s auction features a curated selection of rare and covetable works by leading Australian artists, including Hoda Afshar, Mia Boe, Gerwyn Davies, Gunybi Ganambarr, Bill Henson, Natalya Hughes, Jonny Niesche, Gemma Smith, Jemima Wyman, and Michael Zavros.

This year, guests can expect an evening filled with art, exclusive dining from sAme sAme, and refreshments from Bird in Hand and Coopers Brewery as they count down to the exciting close of the Benefit Auction at 10.30pm. Guests will have the opportunity to view the works up close before they place their bids. They will also take home exclusive raffle prizes from Aesop, Cruise Whitsundays, Dinosaur Designs, Mas and Miek Ceramic House, Silk Laundry, and more.

The extravagant, art-filled evening raises essential funds for the IMA, ensuring it can continue to present its cutting-edge exhibitions with ground-breaking new works from Queensland and Australian artists at pivotal points in their career. Funds raised directly support the future of contemporary art in Australia, with artist commissions and exhibitions set for the IMA’s fiftieth anniversary year in 2025.

From Tuesday 30 July, the Benefit Auction is open to collectors across Australia via the online bidding platform, imabids.com.

The IMA Gala and Benefit Auction will take place on Tuesday 13 August 2024 at The Calile Hotel. Secure your tickets and sign up for exclusive Benefit Auction updates via ima.org.au.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
