IMA Online Archive

16 July 2015

The IMA is pleased to announce our 40th anniversary online archive. It brings together a general overview of each of the four decades of the organisation’s history.

Each section is accompanied by an interview with a past director, giving first-hand accounts of their experiences, and offers a selection of images from the forty year exhibition history as documented by Brisbane the photographer Richard Stringer.

The platform is intended as an introduction, a place to spark interest and encourage engagement with our contemporary programs and with the extensive primary source material held both in the IMA’s onsite archives and at the State Library of Queensland.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
