Student work to be published in IMA Publication

24 May 2017

Earlier in the month of May, the IMA and Flying Arts were delighted to present Art Enquirer, a two-day immersion program for senior high school students. 10 regional and local Grade 12 students were selected to take part in this writing workshop to hone their critical writing skills.

During the two-day workshop, the students were lead on a cultural tour of Fortitude Valley’s commercial and public galleries. A visit to Yeronga artist studios, with the assistance of Milani Gallery, provided a unique experience in contemporary art practice. Artists Ross Manning, Gordon Hookey, and Ryan Presley gave a tour through their studios and delivered thought-provoking insight into their work.

Students responded to the gallery and studio visits during the program, and worked with IMA and Flying Arts facilitators to workshop and edit a written piece.

The essays produced in this program will be published both in print and online, in late 2017. Art Enquirer will be produced by the Institute of Modern Art.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
