Brendan Eilola – Round Multicolour Harlequin
Brendan Eilola is an emerging glass artist with a passion for glass art and design. Born and raised in Brisbane, he has been a Camp Hill local for over 30 years, making him a proud member of the local art scene.
With a bachelor’s degree in fine art (visual) from Queensland University of Technology, where he graduated with distinction in 2018, Brendan also holds a bachelor’s degree in information technology (2000) as well as a graduate certificate in Digital Design from Queensland College of Art (2004).
In 2020, during the COVID-19 outbreak, Brendan embarked on a self-taught journey in glass art. He researched, designed, and built his first kiln, and began exploring lost-wax casting. Leveraging his digital design and IT expertise, he created a range of bold, costume jewellery rings using cutting edge techniques including CAD and 3D printing. These have been sold to collectors in the UK, US and Australia.
Having completed the build of a larger second kiln, Brendan is currently focussed on fusing and kiln forming techniques, exploring the interplay of vibrant, saturated colours and combining transparent and opaque forms. He is captivated by the dynamic effects produced when opaque glass frames transparent ‘windows,’ and the combination of refracted and reflected colours within a piece. These create a spectacular extension of the visual field particularly when influenced by directed light.
His work is inspired by esteemed glass artists such as Frank Van Dem Ham, Bob Leatherbarrow, and Judith Finn Conway for their unique kiln forming techniques.
Brendan’s fascination with glass stems from its beauty and the challenge of working with such a complicated medium. His creations make bold statements, designed to be both functional and objets d’art.
