Sebastian Moody & Sai Karlen

In Conversation

27 June 2019

Artist Sebastian Moody discusses his practice and newly-commissioned temporary public artwork, ‘Seeing’.

Moody’s work is the inaugural IMA Belltower Façade Projection, visible after dark on the façade of the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts. Somewhere between a list and poem, ‘Seeing’ is comprised entirely of six letter words intended to create moments of contemplation on Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley.

Moody is also joined by his collaborator, designer Sai Karlen, to discuss the process of working together to animate and bring to life this kinetic typography projection.

The Institute of Modern Art acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land upon which the IMA now stands, the Jagera, Yuggera, Yugarapul, and Turrbal people. We offer our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first artists of this country. In the spirit of allyship, the IMA will continue to work with First Nations people to celebrate, support, and present their immense past, present, and future contribution to artistic practice and cultural expression.
